Ethos

Hibler Design Studio is dedicated to the
craft of architecture and interior design.

We believe design should be thoughtful; honoring our past and celebrating
community; considering human scale and created with purpose.

  • Jesse Hibler, Principal

Because Jesse’s father was an architect and designed hospitals for a living, Jesse began his career in architecture at an early age. Following his father to his project sites and sitting at his dad’s drafting table designing houses until he left for Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Jesse excelled in college and won awards such as project of the year and was published in national magazines. During his educational years, Jesse worked in Portland, Oregon at a large firm named Zimmer Gunsul Frasca, New York City at a medium sized firm named STUDIOS Architecture and in Saint Joseph, Michigan at a small firm named Keystone Designs.

Jesse worked at Keystone Designs for 8 years and completed many projects as the lead designer for the company until he chose to start a new venture named Hibler Design Studio in 2005.

Jesse works on many types of projects ranging from luxury residences to the design of new towns and communities. He has participated in projects in Indiana, Illinois, Maryland and Texas as well as in Bolivia, South America and Guyana, South America.

During his free time, Jesse is a Trustee on the Berrien Springs Village Council, enjoys traveling and photo-documenting architecture around the world, and spending his time with his wife Jennifer. They are the proud parents of 2 Bassett Hounds, Charlie and Lucy.

Randy Boersen - Project Manager

Randy manages nearly all of the projects under construction as well as coordinating warranty work between Owners and General Contractors and has been with the firm since 2016. He has a strong background in medical office building/assisted living facility design. Randy's preferred method of communication is face-to-face or a quick phone call. He's always ready for a meeting on site and has been known to bang nails beside the contractors, if need be. Originally from Kalamazoo and holds a Bachelors Degree of Architecture from Andrews University, he's a loving husband and father of 2 children and now resides in St. Joseph.

Emily Harlow - Architecture and Design

Emily is our resident expert in kitchen design. She manages our Wood-Mode Cabinetry division and handles all design and implementation of each and every order. She is a gratuate of Andrews University with a Master of Architecture and is not only strong in interiors, but is Jesse's go-to person for building design. She's been with the firm since 2014.

Lee Her - Architecture and Design

Lee is the manager of the production studio at our office. He loves to detail our buildings on our CAD system, Revit, and is also our resident sweet tooth. Lee is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Architecture and moved to Berrien Springs in 2014 after being recruited by the firm. Lee also has strengths in building design and structural design and ensures that each set of construction documents is precise and detailed.

Lawrence DeYoung - Architecture and Design | Project Manager

Lawrence was Jesse's very first employee in 2006. When the firm went to expand to Indianapolis, Lawrence moved to Carmel, Indiana. Then the recession hit. He lived in Indy for a number of years before moving back home to Michigan in 2017 where he came back to Hibler Design Studio once again. Lawrence is an excellent designer, great with Revit, and has a lot of experience in construction. Therefore, he, like Randy, splits his time behind the desk and out in the field meeting with contractors. He's a graduate of Andrews University with a Master of Architecture, a husband, and father of 3 children.

Karen Rodrigues - Office Manager

Karen came to the firm via Rotterdam, Netherlands where she ran an architecture office for 5 years. She has a M.Sc. Architecture + Building Technology from Delft University of Technology. Karen is highly organized and keeps all of us running our best. Karen handles all invoices, calls, receivables and daily tasks all the way down to ensuring that we have enough candy for Lee! She's a wife and a mother of 2 young girls.
